Description:
Learn how the TI-83+/84+ graphing calculator can be used for instructional
purposes to help teach important mathematical concepts in the Pre-Calculus
curriculum. Engage in real-world activities that can immediately be used in
the Pre-Calculus classroom which align with the Principles and Standards for
School Mathematics (NCTM 2000).
Research the National Technology Standards and explore the
instructional implications for the use of technology in the classroom.
Topics included are step-functions, piece-wise functions, composite
trig functions, polar functions, polar conics, hyperbolic solutions to mixture problems,
logarithmic transformations, median-median regression, vectors and catenaries,
vector forces and inclined planes, rate of change and tangent lines, sequences
and series, data analysis, and other topics. Some topics are also applicable
to the Advanced Algebra and College Algebra classrooms.
